stpj-news2-1In 2002, a frightened and crying four-year-old girl was brought into St. PJ’s Emergency Shelter, along with her six-year-old brother. Due to severe abuse and neglect, they had to be removed from their home. While the case manager was comforting her, she noticed that the little girl was wearing red glittered shoes. When asked, “Where did you get those?” the little girl responded, “My grandma gave me these shoes because someday I am going to go home.”

“Home” is how abused and neglected children in our community have referred to St. PJ’s for over a century. Those little red shoes, our inspiration for our Red Shoes Gala, have served as a reminder that each child dreams of a special, safe place called home.

FAQs About the Red Shoes Gala

1) Where does the money go? At least 66% of each individual reservation and 75% of each table sponsorship goes back to the programs for the children of St. PJ’s. St. PJ’s makes the majority of our revenue on the silent and live auction which is why you should bid…and bid often.

2) I don’t make very much to donate.  Even if you donate only $25 to our mission, you are collectively supporting our children. Every.Dollar.Counts.

3)  Are children allowed at the event?  We prefer that children under 18 stay at home where they will have more fun.

4) I know I’ll have more questions later, who should I contact about the event? There are several people at St. PJ’s Children’s Home who are happy to help you!  Call us at (210) 533-1203 and ask for Denise Thieme or Belinda Cox.
